The Cornhuskers scored a record 38 points in the first quarter. The Huskers outgained the Bears 189 yards to 1 in the opening quarter and didn't start a possession in their own territory. You'd think Nebraska had a big game or something to tune up for. With the starters only playing a half, Dan Alexander made the most of his 14 carries with 104 yards and two TDs. It was his fifth 100-yard game of the season. Oct. 28 at Oklahoma

Michael Vick broke free on a 55-yard scoring run in the final two minutes. But until then, the Hokies were never comfortable -- trailing 14-0 after one quarter and 14-3 by halftime. Whew! There would be no explosiveness on offensive, or special teams play to turn the tide. Instead, the defense came up with two big turnovers in the second half -- so give the ball to the D's stars, Willie Pile and Jake Houseright, who intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble, respectively, to set up Hokie TDs. Clemson linebacker Keith Adams intercepted a Ronald Curry pass and returned it to the Tar Heels' 2 with just over three minutes to play. Two plays later, Travis Zachery scored the games final points. Willie Simmons, a redshirt freshman, who replaced the injured Woodrow Dantzler in the second quarter and matched a school record with four touchdown passes to rally the Tigers from a 17-0 deficit. Najeh Davenport gave the Canes a 28-10 lead with just over five minutes left in the second quarter. By then, it was clear Temple was in for another long afternoon. Miami has now outscored the Owls 142-24 over the past three seasons. Santana Moss, who put up numbers we've become familiar with over the years -- 241 all-purpose yards, including a 71-yard punt return for touchdown and 67-yard TD reception. Oct. 28 at N.C. State The teams went into the locker room. FSU held a 27-0 lead, helped by the Cavs' numerous mistakes on offense. The Noles went on to their 33rd straight home victory and extended their unbeaten streak to 50 games on their own turf. It was a day for the defense, which forced five turnovers and totaled five sacks while holding Virginia to just 199 total yards -- 33 rushing.

Dyshod Carter recovered the onside kick for Kansas State, thwarting Tech's comeback bid. Tech never quit, scoring a touchdown with 31 second remaining to keep the pressure on the Wildcats, who where coming off a loss to Oklahoma last week. Jonathan Beasley, who despite two fourth-quarter interceptions deep in Tech territory, ran for two TDs and threw for a third. His second trip into the end zone was his 15th of the season, breaking K-State record for rushing TDs in a season he shared with Bill Butler (1971) and Michael Bishop ('98). Oct. 28 at Texas A&M

No. 9 Washington 36, California 24

The Huskies were finished scoring 23 fourth-quarter points, turning a 24-13 deficit into their 18th consecutive victory over Cal. Washington took advantage of three turnovers and a blocked punt in the fourth quarter. Marques Tuiasosopo, who turned the Cal fourth-quarter mistakes into Washington points, throwing two TD passes in the 23-point outburst. Oct. 28 at Stanford

The Horn Frogs intercepted Josh Blankenship for the fourth time with under two minutes remaining deep in TCU territory. On a wet night, the TCU was stuck in the mud most of the night, but the defense set up two quick strikes in the second half. Give the balls to Bo Springfield and Kenneth Hilliard, whose interceptions led to 14 second-half points. Oct. 28 vs. Rice

This shootout oddly enough didn't come down to who had the ball last, as Jared Lorenzen was intercepted with 48 second to play. Before it was over, however, the teams combined for 1,058 yards and Lorenzen had broken Tim Couch's single-game Kentucky record with 528 yards passing -- the second-highest ever in the SEC. Quincy who? Cory Phillips, filling in for an injured Quincy Carter, threw for 400 yards and tied a Georgia record with four TD passes. Phillips completed 20 of 38 passes with his scoring tosses covering 85, 40, 27 and 15 yards. Oct. 28 vs. Florida

The Buckeyes led 31-10 at halftime. Ohio State turned two early turnovers into a 10-0 lead and three Steve Bellisari TD tosses after that into its halftime advantage. Steve Bellisari, who threw TD passes to three different Buckeyes and accounted for 315 passing yards in just three quarters of work. Ken-Yon Rambo, Reggie Germany and Chad Cacchio each were on the end of Bellisari scoring tosses. Oct. 28 at Purdue

LSU held MSU on a fourth-and-2 from the 17 after scoring on its first possession of OT. It was LSU's second overtime win at Tiger Stadium in less than a month. The Tigers beat Tennessee 38-31 in OT on Sept. 30. LaBrandon Toefield, who scored the game-winner in OT on a 13-yard run and tallied 119 yards against a Mississippi State run defense that entered the game No. 1 in the country, allowing 24 yards per game. While a 14-0 lead isn't exactly safe, it proved to be more than enough for the Wolverines, who turned a T.J. Duckett fumble into a 92-yard scoring drive in the third quarter. Anthony Thomas, who gained 175 yards on the ground, covered the final 30 on his second TD run of the game. The defense, which posted its second straight shutout in as many weeks despite giving up 355 yards. The Wolverines bent, but didn't break, allowing the Spartans to drive to their 2, 28, 9 and 30 in the second half. Nov. 4 at Northwestern

Craig Terrill blocked a 58-yard FG attempt in overtime and Ashante Woodyard returned it 36 yards for a touchdown, keeping the Boilermakers on track for their first Rose Bowl berth in 34 years. Drew Brees, who became the Big Ten's career passing leader and finally got the best of All-America cornerback Jamar Fletcher. Brees surpassed Chuck Long's career record of 10,461 yards on a 78-yard bomb to Seth Morales that beat Fletcher, who had intercepted Brees twice in two previous meetings. Breese now has 10,567 yards and counting. Oct. 28 vs. Ohio State

The Beavers scored 23 points in less than nine minutes to take a 44-31 lead with 1:52 remaining. UCLA scored just 34 seconds later, and recovered an onside kick. But LaDarius Jackson sacked Cory Paus with two seconds left -- his third sack of the game -- on fourth down to seal the outcome. Oregon State quarterback Jonathan Smith, who passed for 351 yards and four touchdowns. Smith threw his final touchdown pass during a 5½-minute span of the fourth quarter that saw the Beavers score 16 unanswered points to take the lead for good, 37-31 with 5:07 to play. Derek Watson broke loose for a 34-yard touchdown run on the opening possession of the third quarter to give the Gamecocks a 24-7 lead. Vandy got within 24-14 in the third, but the Commodores stopped themselves with all three of their turnovers in the final 10 minutes of the game. The special teams, who used some trickery to set up one TD and score their own, as Rashad Faison went 30 yards on a fake punt for the Gamecocks' final touchdown. Oct. 28 vs. Tennessee

Hodges Mitchell went 41 yards for a TD in the third quarter, extending Texas' lead to 25-12. Mitchell accounted for 90 yards in what was a 99-yard drive to the end zone. Hodges Mitchell, who ran for 151 yards rushing on 18 carries and caught seven passes for 47 more yards. Oct. 28 vs. Baylor

West Virginia quarterback Brad Lewis got sandwiched between two defenders on a scramble and sprained his right knee in the second quarter. The Irish scored 35 straight points, including three TDs in the final seven minutes before halftime. The entire Irish team, which won on the road for the first time in two seasons, snapping a school-record seven game losing streak away from South Bend. Oct. 28 vs. Air Force

Indiana quarterback Antwaan Randle El capped off a remarkable offensive show by recovering, yes recovering, an onside kick with 1:34 remaining in the game. Antwaan Randle El, who before recovering the onside kick to clinch a Hoosiers' victory, rushed for a career-high 210 yards and two TDs, while also passing for 263 yards and a pair of scores.
