Legends and History
The Downtown Athletic Club of New York City, Inc. presents the Heisman Memorial Trophy Award each year to the Outstanding College Football Player of the United States. The first trophy was awarded in 1935. The Trophy was renamed for John Heisman in 1936. John Heisman was the first Athletic Director of the Downtown Athletic Club, a gifted and winning football coach, as well as an outstanding student and historian of the game.
