Roberts, late Gustie star, makes Hall of Fame
ST. PETER, Minn. -- Cal Roberts, a star lineman for Gustavus Adolphus College from 1949 to 1952, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Roberts will be the first player from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference enshrined in the hall in South Bend, Ind. The Class of 2002 includes 12 other players and two coaches, including George "Sonny" Franck, a Gophers tailback from 1938-40, and NFL standouts Ronnie Lott, Dan Marino and Reggie White.
Roberts, an offensive and defensive lineman, was drafted by the New York Giants, but an injury during his rookie season ended his football career. He taught physical education in the Minneapolis and St. Louis Park school systems and died in 1966.
