Lakers in Hawaii, Lebron opens vs. Pistons in NBA preseason
NEW YORK - It has yet to be determined how much Kobe Bryant will be with the Los Angeles Lakers this preseason, but his teammates will be enjoying a trip to Hawaii.
The Lakers open their exhibition schedule October 7 against the Golden State Warriors at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu. Bryant may or may not be with his teammates as he faces charges of sexual assault.
As announced Thursday by the NBA, the preseason schedule begins October 5 with a matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz in Mexico City. It's one of several international venues during the exhibition season.
Rookie sensation Lebron James, the top pick in the 2003 draft, makes his preseason debut October 8, when he leads the Cleveland Cavaliers into The Palace at Auburn Hills to face the Detroit Pistons.
James also will play the Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Washington Wizards and Lakers. The Cavs face the Lakers and Clippers at the Staples Center on October 16-17, then meet the Lakers in Bakersfield on October 19.
The NBA champion San Antonio Spurs open their exhibition slate October 8 against the Memphis Grizzlies in Paris. The Grizzlies also face the 2003 Euroleague Champions FC Barcelona in Spain on October 10.
NBA teams will visit 32 non-NBA cities.
Other preseason highlights include the opening of the Houston Rockets' new arena, the Toyota Center, on October 12 against the New Orleans Hornets and the return of the NBA to Charlotte when the Hawks meet the Wizards on October 20.
The NBA's regular season begins October 28.
