UCLA F Cummings declared academically ineligible
LOS ANGELES - UCLA senior forward T.J. Cummings, new coach Ben Howland's most experienced player, will miss at least three games next season after he was declared academically ineligible Thursday.
According to school officials, Cummings' academic status will be re-evaluated after fall quarter final exams. But he will miss both of the Bruins' exhibition games as well as regular-season contests against Vermont, UC-Riverside and Kentucky.
"We expect our players to excel both in the classroom and on the basketball court," Howland said. "T.J. knows what he has to do in the classroom to be eligible to play on the court. As a staff and team, we will support T.J. in his academic pursuits."
The 6-9, 215-pound Cummings was third on the team in scoring and rebounding last season, averaging 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 29 games.
