Former Kentucky basketball player arrested in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Heshimu Evans, a forward on Kentucky's 1998 NCAA championship team, was arrested after police said he left the scene of an accident.
Evans, 28, was arrested about 10 p.m. Thursday, Lexington police Lt. Dwayne Holman said. Holman said Evans was involved in an accident in a parking lot.
Evans was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving with an expired temporary tag, having no insurance and operating on a suspended or revoked drivers' license, Holman said. Evans posted bond shortly after being arrested.
Evans played for Kentucky for two seasons after transferring from Manhattan College. He was the sixth man on the Wildcats' 1998 championship team and started for Kentucky the following season.
He is the second member of those Kentucky teams to be arrested recently.
Wayne Turner, a guard at Kentucky from 1995-99, was arrested in Boston after police found a loaded handgun in his car. He pleaded innocent to charges of illegal possession of a firearm and a weapon with a big supply chamber. He faces an Aug. 18 court date.
