Posey joins Grizzlies; Rockets don't match offer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Swingman James Posey officially joined the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, when the Houston Rockets didn't match a free-agent offer sheet.

"We are very excited to have James join our team," Grizzlies president Jerry West said. "He is a great athlete who can play multiple positions. We have another veteran who coaches can expect to provide leadership and experience, and we value his ability to play defensively."

Posey averaged 10.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season, which he split between the Rockets and Denver Nuggets.

"I think it's a good fit for me, because my skills start with defense," Posey said. "I can bring that high intensity and being able to defend on the floor to the Grizzlies."
