Cowboys 2003-04 basketball schedule released
LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Wyoming will play three teams featured in this year's NCAA Tournament in 2003-04 -- two of them on their home court.
The Cowboys will visit California on Dec. 9 and are scheduled to play Southern Illinois and Dayton on Nov. 22 and Jan. 3, respectively, at the Arena-Auditorium, coach Steve McClain said Friday.
Wyoming will also face Washington at home Dec. 6.
"I think this is the best non-conference home schedule we've put together since I've been here," McClain said. "Our fans have provided us great support through the years, and we wanted to reward them by bringing in some exciting opponents."
The Pokes open the regular season against Southern Illinois, which lost to Missouri in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the Missouri Valley Conference and posting a 24-7 record.
Along with the California game, Wyoming will also visit Kansas State, Denver and Middle Tennessee State, and meet Montana State in Casper.
Home games include Norfolk State, Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee State, Winthrop and Colorado-Colorado Springs.
Three Cowboys games will be televised on ESPN in February. Mountain West Conference play begins Jan. 12 against New Mexico.
