Gophers add another former Hopkins star
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota men's basketball team added another former Hopkins High School star Monday when forward Dan Coleman left Boston College and signed a scholarship tender.
Coleman, a 6-foot-8, 210-pounder, won't be eligible for the 2003-04 season under the NCAA's transfer guidelines because he took classes at Boston College this summer. Coleman was a prep teammate of forward Kris Humphries, who signed with Duke last fall but changed his mind and joined the Gophers this summer. Humphries is eligible to play this year.
"We're very excited to have Dan as a part of this program," Gophers coach Dan Monson said. "His versatility fits perfectly into our style of play, and he is a great addition to the 2004-05 recruiting class. It will be a great advantage to have him on campus for a year working with our coaches and players."
Coleman said he's looking forward to playing for the hometown team.
"This is the place for me," he said. "I realized I wanted to stay close to home, so my friends and family could see me play. I'm very happy and I can't wait for practice to begin and to help this program achieve greater success."
