Indians get ready for season opener

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Arkansas State spent Thursday's practice working on a game plan for the team's season opener at Texas A&M.

Coach Steve Roberts said he was pleased with his team's performance.

"We introduced Texas A&M this morning at our walk-throughs and came out tonight and got a good look at some of stuff we think they're going to do," Roberts said.

The Aggies have a new coaching staff, headed by former Alabama coach Dennis Franchione. The teams are to play Aug. 30.

Despite the sweltering heat and little time off in camp, the Indians continue to do the little things and show intensity and enthusiasm, Roberts said.

"These kids' legs are dead, and we've pushed them extremely hard just to get them prepared for the season, and they've done a heck of a job," he said.

After two planned practices Friday, Saturday is Arkansas State's Fan Appreciation Day, and the Indians also will scrimmage.
