Four 'Cats, Four 'Griz on I-AA all-star game roster
BOZEMAN -- Four players each from Montana State and the University of Montana are among 50 players named Monday to the inaugural NCAA Division I-AA College Football All-Star Classic.
The Montana State players are safety Kane Ioane, offensive tackle Brent Swaggert, cornerback Joey Thomas and offensive guard Mataio Toilolo.
The Montana players are cornerback Vernon Smith, defensive end Tim Bush, offensive tackle Dylan McFarland and kicker Chris Snyder.
Other Big Sky players named to the all-star team by The Football Network are center Matt Raivio of Northern Arizona and defensive end Jared Allen of Idaho State.
Another 50 seniors will be named to the all-star team in October. The players will then be divided into two evenly competitive teams.
The game is scheduled for Dec. 30 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. It will be televised by The Football Network.
The players will compete as two squads named for Eddie Robinson, the legendary coach of I-AA powerhouse Grambling State and the late Walter Payton, who played at I-AA Jackson State before starring for the Chicago Bears of the NFL.
