THIBODAUX, La. -- Nicholls State tied its record for largest margin of victory in a 70-0 rout Thursday night of Bethel College of Tennessee in the opener for both teams.
The Colonels also set a new mark for fewest rushing yards allowed with minus-54 yards, as the Colonels sacked the Wildcats quarterbacks 21 times for a total loss 136 yards. The sack total surpassed the 20 sacks Nicholls State had all last season.
The I-AA Colonels pounded the NAIA school with their running game, finishing with 444 yards and averaging 9.4. Travis Felder finished with 102 yards on six carries and scored twice. Phillip Brock finished the night with 84 yards, while Colt Colletti added 58 yards on seven carries. Nicholls only attempted one pass the entire night.
Along with the 21 sacks, the Colonels also produced 25 tackles for losses and three turnovers along with two blocked punts, one of which led to a touchdown.
