HUNSTSVILLE, Ala. -- Ralph Jenkins caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter and Kory Chapman ran for a game-high 108 yards to lead Jacksonville State to a 9-3 win over Alabama A&M Saturday night.

JSU's defense also came out on top in a fourth-quarter goal-line stand in both teams' season opener.

Timothy Robinson Jr. threw for 142 yards to lead Alabama A&M.

With 3:53 left in the first quarter, Maurice Mullins found Jenkins on a 14-yard touchdown pass to give Jacksonville State a 6-0 lead. Steven Lee's extra point attempt failed.

Rashad Cylar kicked a 22-yard field goal 52 seconds into the second quarter for A&M's only points of the game, 6-3.

JSU's Lee made a 25-yard field goal with 10:53 to go in the fourth quarter to make the score 9-3.

The Bulldogs threatened late in the fourth quarter when second-string quarterback Johnny Keith led the team on an 11-play 71-yard drive to the JSU 1-yard line.

But the Gamecocks defense held A&M four straight plays inside the 2-yard line, stopping each running attempt and forcing a fumble on fourth down with 5:12 left to play.

JSU had 341 total offensive yards to the Bulldogs' 321. They had 193 rushing yards to A&M's 116.
