RALEIGH, N.C. -- Frank Patterson carried the ball 23 times for 173 yards and a touchdown as North Carolina A&T beat N.C. Central 25-0 in the season opener for both teams.

The Aggies' defense stole the show Sunday afternoon, getting four sacks, five interceptions, recovering a fumble and posting a safety. Joey Lance returned one of his two interceptions 32 yards for a touchdown.

A&T outgained N.C. Central 205-47 on the ground. Facing the tough defense, the Eagles punted eight times.

Patterson ran 11 yards for A&T's first score as the Aggies posted 17 unanswered points in the second quarter. Marshall Glenn also completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Eric Arnette before halftime.

Glenn completed 8-of-20 passes for 97 yards and the score. Micheaux Hollingsworth also had 47 yards rushing and led the Aggies with 39 receiving yards.

Adrian Warren threw for 144 yards and ran for 40 more to lead the Eagles.

The NCAA Division II Aggies now lead the all-time series with the Division I-AA Eagles 44-27-5 and have won 17 of the last 21 meetings. The two rivals have opened the season eight straight years.
