BC's Smith sidelined with knee injury
BOSTON -- Boston College forward Craig Smith will be sidelined two to four weeks with a knee injury, the school announced Wednesday.
The 6-foot-7 sophomore tore the meniscus in his right knee in a pickup game last weekend and is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on Friday.
As a freshman, Smith was a second-team All-Big East selection. He led the team in rebounding with a 7.9 average, and was second in scoring at 19.9 points. Smith also led the Big East shooting 60.8 percent from the field.
Smith's injury is the latest in a series of offseason setbacks for the Eagles.
Starting guard Ryan Sidney announced in August that he would not be returning for his senior season for personal reasons. And junior center Nate Doornekamp had surgery in September to repair a fracture in his left foot and was expected to miss up to two months.
Boston College opens practice on Oct. 18.
