Gore injures knee against West Virginia
MIAMI -- Miami running back Frank Gore left Thursday night's game against West Virginia with a sprained left knee, team officials said.
Gore, the second-ranked Hurricanes' leading rusher with 89 carries for 468 yards, was helped to the locker room after a 12-yard gain in the first quarter. He was to be re-evaluated Friday.
He injured the same knee against East Carolina on Sept. 13 and missed parts of practice the following week. Nonetheless, he played against Boston College but sprained his right ankle late in the game and did not return.
The 5-foot-10 sophomore tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in spring 2002 and missed all of last season.
Gore was replaced by Jarrett Payton.
