Trojans starting QB knocked out of game
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Southern California quarterback Matt Leinart left Saturday's game against Arizona State in the second quarter with an injured right leg.
But X-rays on Leinart's knee and ankle proved negative, and he returned to the game on USC's first offensive series in the third quarter. Matt Cassel led the Trojans most of the second quarter.
The injury occurred on No. 10 USC's first play after Arizona State went ahead 10-7 on a field goal 23 seconds into the second.
Leinart dropped back, and linebacker Justin Burks sacked him for a 4-yard loss as Leinart tumbled awkwardly in a crowd of players.
Leinart was 6-for-9 for 131 yards, including a 57-yard scoring pass to Keary Colbert, and one interception in the first quarter.
