Miami (Ohio) 45, Akron 20
OXFORD, Ohio -- Ben Roethlisberger passed for 369 yards and two touchdowns as Miami of Ohio beat Akron 45-20 Saturday.
The RedHawks (4-1, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) led just 24-20 after three quarters, but shut down the Zips (3-3, 2-2) in the fourth while scoring on runs by Roethlisberger, Mike Smith and Ada Ciborowski -- none more than 6 yards.
Roethlisberger was 31-of-47 with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Michael Larkin and a 1-yarder to Smith, both in the second quarter. He also ran for two TDs.
Ryan Busing had seven receptions for 132 yards, and Martin Nance had nine catches for 108 yards. Cal Murray led all rushers with 108 yards on 19 carries as Miami outrushed Akron 184-47.
Charlie Frye went 23-of-42 for 258 yards and two TDs for Akron but was intercepted twice. Mick Sparks had seven catches for 142 yards, including a 57-yarder for a touchdown. Jason Swiger kicked two 36-yard field goals.
