Monmouth, N.J. 30, Iona 7

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Brian Boland threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns to lead undefeated Monmouth past Iona 30-7 on Saturday.

The Hawks (5-0) powered past the Iona (2-3) defense for 30 unanswered points, losing their shutout only when Dustin Croick hit Kevin Williams with a 6-yard touchdown pass with 3:39 to play.

Bobby Smith put Monmouth on the scoreboard with a 12-yard run with 4:29 left in the first quarter, followed minutes later by a Steve Andriola field goal.

Wide receiver Dennis Carrier tossed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Billy Lynn late in the first half to put Monmouth ahead 17-0.

Boland's favorite target was Austin Miles, who had two touchdown receptions in less than a minute early in the fourth quarter.

Iona's three quarterbacks took a beating from the Monmouth defense, getting sacked 10 times for a total loss of 55 yards.

The Gaels' rushing game was led by Rudy Arcara, who rushed for 83 yards.
