N. Carolina A&T 34, Norfolk St. 14

NORFOLK, Va. -- Carl Scriven ran for four touchdowns and North Carolina A&T built a 21-0 lead and hung on the beat Norfolk State 34-14 on Saturday.

The Aggies (4-1, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) built the big lead on drives of 40, 14 and 10 yards, with Scriven scoring on a pair of 1-yard runs and Jamal Jones scoring on a 6-yard run. Scriven finished with 57 yards on 15 carries.

The Spartans (1-4, 0-2) pulled within 21-14 in the third quarter on a 33-yard run by Terrell Johnson and a 5-yard pass from Dontrel Leonard to Howard Gilmore.

The Spartans also gained 195 yards to the Aggies 209, but lost the ball on two interceptions and a fumble and allowed A&T to hold the ball for more than 35 minutes.

Randal Rankins finished just 4-for-15 passing for 45 yards for the Aggies, but was not intercepted. Scriven added fourth-quarter scoring runs of 2 and 21 yards.

Johnson gained 87 yards on 15 carries for the Spartans.
