CONWAY, S.C. -- Nick Roberts rushed for two touchdowns and threw for a third to lead Gardner-Webb to a 38-17 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday night.
Chris Foster ran for 123 yards to lead the Bulldogs (4-2, 1-0 Big South Conference). The defeat for the Chanticleers was their first-year program's first-ever league loss.
After Roberts got things going with a 10-yard touchdown pass to William Andrews Jr. in the first quarter, Gardner-Webb showed off its ground game. Harold Wells had a 2-yard touchdown run as the Bulldogs scored 31 straight points to put the game out of reach.
Roberts had touchdown runs of 3 and 4 yards. He also finished 13-of-23 for 147 yards passing.
Aundres Perkins rushed for 101 yards for Coastal (2-3, 0-1), his third straight game over 100.
Andrews had eight catches for 88 yards, setting the Gardner-Webb record for career receptions. He now had 194 in his career for 2,650 yards and 28 touchdowns.
