Pittman was indicted in June on two counts of aggravated assault for ramming his Hummer into a car carrying his wife, Melissa, his 2-year-old son, and a baby sitter on May 31 near Pittman's home in Phoenix.
No one was hurt, but the crash pushed the car over a median and tore one of the tires from its rim.
Authorities said the encounter involved a disagreement about taking the child to training camp.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office said Tuesday that it also has filed a felony charge of aggravated domestic violence against Pittman.
Pittman was previously convicted of domestic violence on July 26, 2001 for blowups in June and July of that year, the attorney's office said.
Because the latest problem falls within five years of Pittman's previous domestic violence convictions, prosecutors were able to file the additional charge of aggravated domestic violence.
The felony charge carries a mandatory four-month sentence and a maximum two-year sentence.
Pittman played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Bucs as a free agent last year.
An initial pretrial conference is scheduled for Nov. 3 with a trial scheduled to begin Jan. 13, 2004.
