EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings signed free agent defensive end Talance Sawyer on Wednesday and released rookie defensive tackle Colin Cole.

Sawyer played in 36 games, starting 32, for the Vikings from 1999 to 2002. Ankle and knee injuries cut short his season last year after two games. He has 11 career sacks since being drafted by Minnesota in the sixth round of the 1999 draft out of UNLV.

Cole spent time on the practice squad and the active roster, but didn't play in any games.
