Howard 16, Florida A&M 14
WASHINGTON (AP)-- Vaughn Waters kicked a 33-yard field goal with 2 minutes, 30 seconds to play in the game, which gave Howard a 16-14 win over Florida A&M Saturday.
It is the first two-game winning streak ever for Howard (2-3) over the Rattlers (4-3) and its first home win against Florida A&M since 1991.
Waters had been skipped over in favor of a two-point conversion earlier in the fourth quarter after Antoine Rutherford, who rushed for 137 yards, scored his second touchdown from a yard out to pull the Bison within 14-13.
After stopping the Rattlers on fourth down, Howard drove the ball 44 yards down to the Florida A&M 14 yard line to set up Waters for the field goal.
Rattlers quarterback Ben Dougherty, who rushed for 105 yards and threw for 95, got the Rattlers in position for the win, but Juan Vasquez missed wide left from 38 yards in the closing seconds.
