Louisiana Tech 38, Texas-El Paso 35
EL PASO, Texas -- Luke McCown threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns to lead Louisiana Tech to a come-from-behind 38-35 victory over Texas-El Paso on Saturday night.
McCown, who completed 22 of his 40 passes, moved into eighth place on the all-time NCAA passing-yards list with 12,221 yards.
Louisiana Tech (3-3l, 1-2 WAC) fell behind 28-13 with 1:09 left in the second quarter when quarterback Orlando Cruz scored on a 5-yard run for UTEP (2-5, 1-1).
Eric Newman's 46-yard return on the ensuing kick gave the Bulldogs the ball on the UTEP 39-yard line. Four plays later, Ryan Moats scored on a 1-yard run with :23 left to cut the UTEP lead to 28-20.
Louisiana Tech tied the score at 28-28 with 9:19 remaining in the third quarter on Moats' 35-yard run and two-point conversion on a pass from McCown to Moats.
The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game on a 48-yard touchdown pass from McCown to D.J. Curry with :32 left in the third quarter.
Moats led the bulldogs with 118 yards rushing on 22 carries and two touchdowns.
Curry led Louisiana Tech with seven catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns while Chris Norwood caught five balls for 102 yards.
Howard Jackson led UTEP with 141 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Jackson also caught thre passes for 51 yards.
Cruz completed 18 of 33 passes for 285 yards and had two interceptions.
Josh Scobee kicked three field goals for the Bulldogs, from 53, 39 and 44 yards out.
Louisiana Tech totaled 27 first downs and gained 493 total yards. UTEP had 21 first downs and 535 total yards.
