Utah's Smith, Air Force's Graddy and Martin honored
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Utah quarterback Alex Smith won his second straight Mountain West Conference player of the week award Monday, joined by two Air Force players: linebacker Marchello Graddy and punter Andrew Martin.
Smith, a sophomore, completed 17-of-22 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns as he rallied the Utes to a 27-6 victory over San Diego State on Saturday. He has not thrown an interception in 115 attempts.
Last week, Smith was named the co-offensive player of the week after a 340-yard, two-touchdowns effort in Utah's upset win over Oregon.
Graddy, a senior, won the defensive award after posting a team-high 12 tackles, including two sacks, in Air Force's 24-7 win over UNLV.
Martin, another Air Force senior, averaged 47.6 yards on five punts in Saturday's game. A 65-yard punt was muffed by the Rebels and recovered in the end zone by Air Force for a 17-0 third-quarter lead.
