La. Coll.'s Davis, Southern's Williams win LSWA recognition
RUSTON, La. -- Louisiana College running back Wayne Davis and Southern University defensive back Lenny Williams were named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Davis turned in a record-setting performance by rushing for 322 yards on 34 carries in the Wildcats' 34-18 win over McMurry in American Southwest Conference play.
Davis beat the old ASC conference mark by 43 yards
The Garrison, Texas native also scored four touchdowns including an 85-yard scoring run.
Williams led the Southern University defense in the Jaguars' 55-25 victory over Alabama A&M. Williams recorded nine tackles and two pass deflections as Southern limited Alabama A&M to just 153 yards of total offense. The Lake Charles native also recorded one tackle for loss.
