Delaware State fires Blacknall, promotes Posey
DOVER, Delaware - Benjamin Blacknall, who guided his team to an 0-6 mark this season, Wednesday was fired as the coach at Delaware State and replaced by defensive coordinator Butch Posey on an interim basis.
The Hornets were 16-25 under Blacknall, who was hired in December 1999.
"Ben Blacknall has worked very hard with the players and dedicated a lot of time in his efforts to build up the DSU football program," athletic director Hallie Gregory said. "However, it is clear that the football program needs to go in a new direction in its development, and that has resulted in the change."
Gregory said a search for a permanent coach would commence in a few weeks.
Posey has been on the Hornets staff since the 2000 season.
