Delaware State coach fired
DOVER, Del. -- Delaware State fired football coach Ben Blacknall on Wednesday and named defensive coordinator Butch Posey as interim coach.
The Hornets were winless in six games this year and 16-24 during Blacknall's four-year tenure.
"Ben Blacknall has worked very hard with the players and dedicated a lot of time in his efforts to build up the DSU football program, " Delaware State athletic director Hallie E. Gregory said. "However, it is clear that the football program needs to go in a new direction in its development, and that has resulted in the change."
Posey will serve as interim coach for the rest of the season. A search for a full-time head coach will begin in a few weeks.
