Stanford's Mike Montgomery to receive coaching award
LOS ANGELES -- Stanford coach Mike Montgomery will receive the John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching award in April.
Montgomery has a 363-165 record in 17 seasons at Stanford. He has guided the Cardinal to the Final Four in 1998, and Pac-10 Conference titles in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
He will receive the award on April 10, the same day the Wooden Award is presented to the nation's top college basketball player at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
The award began in 1999 to recognize coaches that exemplify Wooden's standards of coaching success and personal achievement. Past winners are North Carolina's Dean Smith, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, Arizona's Lute Olson, Louisville's Denny Crum and last year's honoree Roy Williams, currently at North Carolina.
