UND names Bowenkamp as starter against NDSU
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Junior John Bowenkamp will start at quarterback Saturday for the University of North Dakota against North Dakota State, Sioux head coach Dale Lennon said Friday.
Bowenkamp came off the bench last Saturday when senior quarterback Joe Wilson injured his hamstring, and led UND to a 25-24 comeback win over South Dakota State. He earned North Central Conference player of the week honors.
Bowenkamp had been lifted in the second half against St. Cloud State the week before, and Wilson rallied the Sioux to a 29-28 win.
Bowenkamp missed practice on Tuesday and Wednesday because he was ill. He and Wilson both practiced Thursday.
The 6-foot-5 Bowenkamp has thrown for 1,162 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He has completed 61 percent of his passes.
The 6-1 Wilson has completed 71 percent of his passes for 311 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Bowenkamp made his first career college start against NDSU last season, engineering the Sioux to a 12-6 win.
