Cal Poly-SLO 54, St. Mary's 10
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Darrell Jones had a 39-yard touchdown reception and a 77-yard punt return for a touchdown as Cal Poly easily beat St. Mary's 54-10 Saturday.
Cal Poly (4-3) stopped a three-game losing streak and kept its postseason hopes alive for another two weeks. The Mustangs have a bye next week and play Southern Utah Nov. 1.
Cal Poly had 472 yards of total offense including 360 yards rushing as Ryan Bianchi, Geno Randle and Brandon Shepard all ran for touchdowns.
Bianchi had a season-high 110 yards on 12 carries.
Cal Poly quarterback Chris Peterson was 6-of-13 for 112 yards and two touchdowns after missing the previous week's game at Akron with a sore back.
Peterson, who was intercepted five times in a loss at St. Mary's last year, hit Anthony Randolph with a 30-yard touchdown pass before sitting out most of the second half.
David Richardson had two interceptions for the Mustangs, setting up two scores.
St. Mary's (0-7) didn't find the end zone until Dre Coleman rushed for a 13-yard touchdown with 2:42 remaining in the game.
The Gaels' leading tackler linebacker Heath Villareal was thrown out of the game after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the second half.
