ENGLEWOOD, Colorado - The injuries keep piling up for the Denver Broncos.

Broncos starting left tackle Ephraim Salaam will undergo right knee surgery and be sidelined for about three weeks, coach Mike Shanahan announced Monday.

Salaam was injured during Sunday's 28-20 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. An MRI revealed cartilage damage in Salaam's right knee.

With Salaam sidelined, Shanahan said that Blake Brockermeyer and Cooper Carlisle will split time at left tackle.

In addition to Salaam's injury, the Broncos also lost quarterback Steve Beuerlein for up to five weeks with a dislocated right pinkie. Starting quarterback Jake Plummer already is out for at least the next three weeks with a broken foot.

The Broncos (5-2) are in second place in the AFC West, 1 1/2 games behind unbeaten Kansas City (6-0).
