SAN DIEGO -- Gary Grant, an All-American at Michigan and a 13-year NBA veteran, has been hired as an assistant to San Diego State basketball coach Steve Fisher.

Grant played at Michigan from 1984-88 while Fisher was an assistant coach there.

Grant led the Wolverines to a 100-29 record, four NCAA tournament appearances and four 20-win seasons.

He was a first-round draft pick of the Seattle SuperSonics in 1988 but his rights were traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He played with the Clippers for seven seasons and also played for New York, Miami and Portland.

Grant was an assistant coach for the Portland Trailblazers last season.
