Fitzgerald catches TD pass in 13th straight game
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald caught a touchdown pass for the 13th consecutive game Saturday, tying the NCAA record set last season by Charles Rogers of Michigan State.
Running a fade route, Fitzgerald stumbled momentarily but recovered to make the catch of Rod Rutherford's 3-yard throw midway through the first quarter against Syracuse.
The touchdown catch was Rutherford's 14th in seven games this season, breaking the Big East single season record of 13 by Pitt's Terry Murphy in 1997.
Fitzgerald, a sophomore, has caught 23 touchdown passes during his 13-game streak.
Fitzgerald needs two touchdowns catches to tie Julius Dawkins' single-season school record of 16, set as Dan Marino threw for 37 touchdowns in 1981.
