Southwest St., Minn. 28, Minn.-Moorhead 20
MARSHALL, Minn. -- David Whitten set school records with 43 rushing attempts and 243 yards as Southwest State beat Minnesota State, Moorhead 28-20 Saturday.
Whitten scored on a 48-yard run in the second quarter to help break the Mustangs six-game losing streak.
Rob Fagnan also ran for two touchdowns, passed for another and completed 7 of 15 passes for the Mustangs (3-6, 1-5 NSIC).
Jesse Nitchals scored a touchdown on his only catch of the game -- a 25-yard pass from Fagnan in the second quarter.
Jake Sternhagen rushed for 127 yards on 19 carries and finished with two touchdowns for Moorhead in the losing effort. The Dragons are now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC.
Southwest State broke a six-game losing streak with its win against Moorhead.
Moorhead possessed the ball for almost 10 more minutes than Southwest State in the loss.
