Florida A&M 60, Norfolk State 10
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Ben Dougherty threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead Florida A&M to a 60-10 win Saturday against Norfolk State.
Rashard Pompey also had two touchdowns, and Florida A&M scored on its first nine possessions of the game. Norfolk State never drove deeper than Florida A&M's 33-yard line until the fourth quarter.
Florida A&M (5-4) took control of the game after returning the opening kickoff to Norfolk State's 35-yard line. Pompey scored two plays later on a 19-yard run.
The Rattlers scored two more touchdowns and two field goals as they built a 25-3 halftime lead. Florida A&M totaled 309 offensive yards and 18 first downs in the first half, while Norfolk State had only 86 yards and six first downs.
Dougherty played less than three quarters but completed 15 of 24 passes for 186 yards. Pompey also sat out the fourth quarter but rushed for 114 yards on 14 carries.
Norfolk State (1-7) has lost six games in a row and has never beaten Florida A&M.
Pompey scored his second touchdown with 8:33 left in the third quarter when he took a short pass from Dougherty and ran 22 yards into the end zone.
Dougherty hit Rod Miller with a 3-yard touchdown pass later in the third quarter to give Florida A&M a 39-3 lead.
Dontrell Leonard scored the Spartans' only touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback sneak with 4:20 left in the game.
