N. Carolina A&T 27, Howard 7
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Frank Patterson rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown as North Carolina A&T held Howard to 190 yards of offense in a 27-7 victory over the Bison on Saturday.
Herbert Dixon also returned an interception from Marco Moreno 11 yards for the opening score as the Aggies (7-1, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) had little trouble on homecoming. Yonnic Matthews added two second-half field goals to extend the A&T lead.
Dixon set the tone of the game on defense when he grabbed a tipped pass from Moreno and ran into the end zone untouched in the first quarter. A&T made it 14-0 when Rico Watkins threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Jamal Jones 19 seconds before halftime.
The only score for Howard (2-5, 0-3) came on Moreno's 71-yard pass to Travis Gilliam to make it 20-7 with 6:26 remaining. Patterson pounded the ball on the ensuing drive with seven carries, taking it in from 4 yards out for a TD to ice it.
The A&T defense recorded four sacks, forced three fumbles and limited the Bison to 72 yards on the ground, 51 of them coming from Howard's Antoine Rutherford. Moreno went 7-of-15 for 90 yards.
Eddie Ravenell recorded nine tackles on the day for the Aggies.
