Purcell named WAC defensive player of week

HONOLULU -- Hawaii defensive lineman Mel Purcell was named the Western Athletic Conference defensive player of the week on Monday.

The sophomore from American Samoa recorded 12 tackles and two sacks in Hawaii's 31-15 win over Texas-El Paso on Saturday night.

Louisiana Tech running back Ryan Moats earned WAC's offensive player of the week honors.

Moats rushed for 199 yards on 31 carries and a career-high three touchdowns in a 42-34 win at Nevada. He has now rushed for more than 100 yards in three straight games.
