Schottenheimer to announce starting QB on Friday
SAN DIEGO -- Doug Flutie took the majority of snaps for the second straight day, but San Diego Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer said he'll wait until Friday to announce his starting quarterback for this weekend's game against Minnesota.
Schottenheimer said Thursday he wants to keep the Vikings guessing whether they'll have to face the scrambling Flutie or Drew Brees, a pocket passer.
"I thought they both did a nice job today," Schottenheimer said.
"Fortunately, I'm not in the situation where we have to make this decision immediately and we're not going to announce it until tomorrow."
Flutie, 41, replaced the ineffective Brees last Sunday and led the Chargers (1-7) to their only score in a 20-7 loss at Chicago.
LaDainian Tomlinson missed practice again after having a wisdom tooth removed Tuesday. Schottenheimer thinks Tomlinson will be back at practice Friday.
