MONTPELLIER, France -- A brief look at Thursday's sixth stage of the 100th Tour de France:

Stage: Riders followed a super-flat 110-mile route along the Mediterranean from Aix-en-Provence to Montpellier under hot and windy conditions.

Winner: Andre Greipel. The German rider with the Lotto-Belisol team led a sprint to edge Peter Sagan of Slovakia in second and Germany's Marcel Kittel, the winner of Stage 1, in third. Britain's Mark Cavendish was fourth.

Yellow Jersey: Daryl Impey became the first South African to wear the leader's jersey in the race's 110-year history. He inherited it from Orica GreenEdge teammate Simon Gerrans of Australia, who had a two-day run in the coveted shirt.

Stat of the day: 6. The number of riders left on the injury-depleted Astana team, from the original nine who began the race.

Quote of the day: "Sending him best wishes and hopes he gets well soon. He's definitely made our country a better place" -- Impey, to ailing former South African leader Nelson Mandela.

Friday's stage: Stage 7 covers 127.7 miles from Montpellier to Albi and includes four moderate climbs that will serve as an appetizer for more severe ascents in the Pyrenees beginning Saturday.
