Scheidt, Bruno continue to lead Star regatta
NASSAU, Bahamas -- Two-time Olympic gold medalist Robert Scheidt of Brazil and crewman Bruno Prada won two races Friday to continue to hold the lead heading into the elimination rounds of the inaugural Star Sailors League Finals.
The fleet of 18 was reduced to 10 for the direct eliminations scheduled for Saturday. All 10 teams will start in the quarterfinals, with seven advancing to the semifinals and four to the finals.
Americans Mark Mendelblatt and Brian Fatih were second, followed by Diego Negri and Sergio Lambertenghi of Italy. Another American team, Augie Diaz and John Von Schwarz, was ninth.
Among those eliminated were former Star world champions Paul Cayard and George Szabo.
A purse of $200,000 will be divided among the 18 world-class skippers.
