Parada takes lead at Quantum Key West
KEY WEST, Fla. -- Argentine sailor Guillermo Parada has steered Italian-flagged Azzurra into a slight lead in the 52 Class at the Quantum Key West 2013 sailing regatta off the Florida Keys.
After Wednesday's races ended, both Parada and Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom, sailing Ran, had 16 points. But Parada's edge resulted from two second-place finishes versus Zennstrom's two third-place finishes.
In the 23-boat Melges 24 Class, Full Throttle, skippered by Brian Porter of Lake Geneva, Wis., inched ahead of Hedgehog, captained by Bermuda's Alec Cutler with Canadian Olympic sailor Richard Clarke as tactician.
Barking Mad, with Bostonian James Richardson at the helm and tactician Terry Hutchinson, expanded its lead in the Farr 40 class.
The five-day regatta, with 10 scheduled races, is set to end Friday.
