McIlroy misses cut at Hong Kong Open
HONG KONG -- Top-ranked Rory McIlroy made a double bogey on his final hole Friday, guaranteeing that he'll miss the cut in his Hong Kong Open title defense.
McIlroy shot a 2-over 72 to finish at 5 over after two rounds in warm but windy conditions at Hong Kong Golf Club. It left the Northern Irishman three shots outside the expected cut.
"It's disappointing, you never want to miss the cut and even more when you are defending a tournament," McIlroy said. "So it's not the week I wanted, but then I have a few days to work on my putting and try and get ready for Dubai."
Denmark's Anders Hansen shot a 64 to take the clubhouse lead at 7 under halfway through the second round.
