Lopez rides 7 winners to set Monmouth Park record
OCEANPORT, N.J. -- Jockey Paco Lopez set a Monmouth Park record by riding seven winners Saturday.
The 28-year-old Lopez won the first, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, 10th and 12th races to break the mark set by Walter Blum in 1961 and matched by Chris Antley in 1984, by Julie Krone in 1987, Jose Lezcano in 2008 and Eddie Castro in 2009.
Joe Bravo also won six races on four occasions -- in 1994, 2002, 2005 and 2006.
In the feature race, Hard Enough held off Winning Cause by three-quarters of a length in the $100,000 Red Bank Stakes. Ridden by Castro and trained by Bobby Dibona, the 4-year-old colt ran the mile over a good turf course in 1:36 3-5 in the Grade III race. He paid $20.40, $8.60 and $4.20.
