Fire With Fire wins Whittingham at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Fire With Fire won the $200,000 Charles Whittingham Stakes by a neck at Santa Anita on Saturday.
Ridden by Tyler Baze, Fire With Fire ran 1 1/4 miles on the turf in 2:00.92 and paid $16.60, $6.60 and $2.60 at 7-1 odds. The 6-year-old gelding carried high weight of 124 pounds, spotting five pounds to all but one horse in the field of nine.
Trainer Neil Drysdale won the race for a seventh time; it was run at Santa Anita for the first time after Betfair Hollywood Park closed in December.
Segway returned $5.40 and $2.80, while Quick Casablanca was another neck back in third and paid $2.40 to show as the 8-5 favorite.
The victory, worth $120,000, increased Fire With Fire's career earnings to $655,354, with seven wins in 32 starts.
