Souper Colossal wins Monmouth Park feature
OCEANPORT, N.J. -- Souper Colossal took the lead midway through and drew off in the stretch to win the $60,000 Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday, beating Secured Position by 3 3/4 lengths.
Ridden by Paco Lopez and trained by Eddie Plesa Jr., the 2-year-old colt ran five furlongs over a fast track in 57 3-5 and returned $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10. The race originally was scheduled for the turf but was moved to the main track, leaving a field of just six horses.
Secured Position paid $4.60 and $3, and Reid the News was seven lengths back in third and returned $2.80.
Souper Colossal has won both of his career starts and has earned $64,800.
