Golden Country wins Churchill feature by 2 lengths
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Longshot Golden Country took charge just after the start and raced to a two-length win in the $50,597 Governor's Scholars Day Purse on Wednesday at Churchill Downs.
The 4-year-old fell behind Maltese Dog briefly in the backstretch but regained the lead on the far turn for the win.
Ridden by Freddy Lenclud, Golden Country covered the seven furlongs in 1:23.88 and paid $48.80, $17.80 and $9. A Diehl returned $5.60 and $3.80, while Posse Cat was a length back in third and paid $7.40.
Golden Country, owned by Theodore Bates Jr., earned $30,510 for his third win, increasing his career total to $118,024.
