Shumoos wins Santa Anita feature
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Shumoos won the $60,000 feature at Santa Anita by 2½ lengths Friday.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Shumoos ran six furlongs in 1:09.52 on a dirt surface listed as wet-fast and paid $8.60, $3.80 and $3.40.
She had been idle since finishing second in the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint at Churchill Downs. Owner Fawzi Nass has spring breeding date set for Shumoos to top stallion Medaglia d'Oro in Kentucky.
"We needed to win today to prove she's getting back to her best," trainer Ben Cecil said. "I was scared we might lose her (if she didn't run well). I think this filly could be very good. She showed a new dimension in that she led. She's had problems in the gate, but not today."
Quizzical returned $3.20 and $3.40, while Sizzling Gold was another neck back in third and paid $7 to show.
The victory, worth $36,000, increased Shumoos' career earnings to $199,341, with three wins in eight starts.
