Magical Band wins feature race at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Magical Band won the $58,000 Jack Disney Retirement Purse for older fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Magical Band ran six furlongs in 1:09.88 on the dirt surface listed as wet-fast after rain. The 4-year-old filly paid $6.80, $3.20 and $2.20 as the 2-1 second choice in the field of six for trainer Hector Palma.

Splendid Fortune returned $2.60 and $2.40 while finishing second and Egg Drop was a half-length back in third and paid $2.80 to show.

With the winner's share of $34,800, Magical Band increased her earnings to $93,350.

The race was named for Jack Disney, the longtime Los Angeles Herald Examiner sports writer and Santa Anita publicity staffer.
